Driving Technology into Business Results
Compasso was founded in 1995 by Alexis Rockenbach, inspired
by the vision to turn software projects into business results
for our customers. Although adept in directing our customers
to the better choices in technology and software platforms,
Compasso attributes its greatest successes to its ability
to empower its customers to achieve dramatically improved
business results.
The company’s first offices were opened in the city
of Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, (Southeastern Brazil),
a region acknowledged as the “Silicon Valley” of
Latin America from both technological and investment perspectives.
Rio Grande do Sul has technology research centers in universities
like Unisinos, UFRGS (Federal University at Rio Grande do
Sul), PUC and UPF (University of Passo Fundo), all engaged
in development ventures with global corporations including
Dell, Microsoft and HP. They also develop projects in association
with the Project Management Institute and other organizations.
Compasso Brazil is currently headquartered in the city of
Sao Paulo, with additional offices in Florianopolis and Porto
Alegre.
Quality Growth
During 2000, Compasso increased its methodology standards
by adopting the requirements of the Capability Maturity Model
(CMM) of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie
Mellon University. Compasso has fully implemented CMM Level
3 and is awaiting certification from SEI, assuring an even
greater precision in the timeliness and quality of its solutions.
According to these standards, the Compasso methodology is
based on continuous improvement in the software development
process by carefully coordinating the efforts of the entire
Compasso team.
Productivity Advantages
In 2001, Compasso established its headquarters in Sao Paulo,
the center of Brazilian business. This growth fostered a
closer relationship between Compasso and its customers, and
a greater agility in servicing its commercial clients. Compasso’s
core development teams and technology research center remain
in Rio Grande do Sul.
Compasso has made significant investments in infrastructure
and quality processes to facilitate remote online interaction
between the company and its customers. Every Compasso customer
is permitted access to the Compasso corporate development
intranet. Through this portal, the professionals at Compasso
can communicate seamlessly with the customer’s project
directors and decision makers, effectively creating a transparent
partnership to deliver the project effectively and efficiently.
Both Compasso and the customer have real-time access to the
project registry which includes shared technical documentation,
daily activity status reports, minutes, completion percentage,
incorporated features, and other important information.
The use of a reusable framework of J2EE software components
called e-Business Building Blocks (e3B)® contributes
significantly to our high level of productivity. Each e3B
functions independently and interacts with other e3Bs through
data sharing. The e3B framework dramatically reduces the
time requirements and increases the flexibility of e-Business
solution implementation. The ability to quickly adapt to
changing customer requests and add new features means more
productive products are delivered in time with the customer’s
market needs. Compasso develops E3B projects according to
company methodology and in compliance with the company quality
team.
Building Strong Partnerships
In the implementation and integration of its solutions,
Compasso acts in partnership with well renowned IT companies.
Our main objective is to offer the higher quality solution
and the better choices among J2EE platforms for our customers.
In 2002, Oracle Corporation honored Compasso with Oracle
Certified Partner status. The certification came as a result
of many successful customer implementations and the early
adoption of Oracle technologies in Latin America.
Compasso is a member of Partner World IBM, working primarily
with Websphere and Rational product lines. The company also
has strong ties with BEA Systems and ATG.
Global Vision
In 2003, Compasso inaugurated its operations in the United
States, extending the performance already started with
multinational corporate clients headquartered in Brazil,
and continuing the sucessful experiencies into Costa Rica
and Mexico.
Compasso’s focus in the North American marketplace
is to offer the same high quality development and methodologies
given to Latin American customers by delivering excellence
in processes and technology through outsourcing services.
